Spur of the moment parties are the best!

Make time for friends during the holidays with a no-fuss but fun get together!  Our graphic design team gets together at the drop of a hat when one of the team feels like cooking for the crowd!  Jordan is always up for hosting and with the first cold snap, she announced it was time to try her new chili recipe!

Our Black and White tabletop collection has the perfect pieces for everyday entertaining! Jordan uses our oversize coffee mugs for chili and our cereal bowls for condiments like sour cream and cheese!

Jordan’s Chili Recipe

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 onion
  • 1 package of Hillshire Farms Polska Kielbasa Sausage
  • 1 can light red kidney beans
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1 small can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of chili powder
  • ketchup and mustard

Dice onion and cook with ground beef. Dice the kielbasa sausage and add that to the ground beef.  In a large pot or crock pot, add the canned ingredients (drain the beans), salt, sugar and chili powder.   Once the beef is cooked all the way through, drain and add to the pot with other ingredients. Stir together and then add some ketchup and mustard to taste. I never measure this… just squirt some of each into the pot and stir and taste till it’s right! Once you have the mixture right, either turn on the crock pot, or simmer in a pot on the oven.

Garnish with cheddar cheese, sour cream, and chopped green onions. Yummy!

What is a Charcuterie Plate?

And how do you pronounce it?  (char·cu·te·rie)

Charcuterie is, according to Webster, “a delicatessen specializing in dressed meats and meat dishes.”

For several years we have seen charcuterie boards and plates on menus at our favorite restaurants from NYC to Main Street. So while the GOWHIMSEY team was brainstorming for our catalog photo shoot, we thought of creating a charcuterie and cheese plate for our new ceramic Everyday 2016 rectangle platter.

According to Chris and Steve at the Livewell Network site the combination of dried meats and cheese is a perfect go-to appetizer and get this…NO COOK!  Now that is something we love for summer days in the South!  At http://livewellnetwork.com/Steven-and-Chris/episodes/Charcuterie-and-Cheese-Plate-101/8472341 they give a great shopping list to create this appetizer that fits our rectangle platter perfectly.
