Spring & Summer Time Travels with the Kids

March is when it all starts in my family.  The travels of back and forth from the beach to home plus 2 wild boys and new to the family, our sweet pup Hank.  With all the travels, me as a mom, I have to stay somewhat organized being I am the only female in the house (men aren’t the most organized, right ladies!? 😉 ).

Kayak.jpg

Here are some simple tips for the moms to keep the family organized during the spring and summer months.

Boat Beach

Give a task to someone else

Us as moms feel like we should take it all on, but I have learned that only stresses me out so I have HAD to push myself to delegate.  Now that the boys are getting older they can take on more responsibility.  So, when its time to pack up for our weekends at the beach I have made it their responsibility to pack their clothes; I of course go behind them to make sure all the essentials are packed of course 😉  This has been a HUGE help (more mentally than physically).

  • Our Canvas Duffles are perfect for the boys… with their names monogrammed of course.

Duffle-Mason.png

Duffle-McCray.png

Pre-Pack and Don’t Un-Pack

I have actually done this since Mason (my oldest who is now 7) was a baby.  I am one of those moms who had my boys on a boat, near the water since they were infants so of course with any new baby and toddler there comes a ton of little stuff you can’t forget especially when you’re out on a boat.  We call it our Boat Bag in my house… it’s a bag that I have which I NEVER unpack (except if there is food, of course).  This has taken a lot of the thinking out of packing, which to me is the most exhausting part of traveling, am I right?  All I have to do is grab it and go and add in the boat snacks once we get down to the beach.

  • Some essential items that I always keep in our Boat Bag: our Stripe Beach Pouch is the perfect option
  1. Burt’s Bees All-Weather Moisturizing Lip Balm SPF 15
  2. Alba Botanica Kids Spray SPF 50
  3. The Honest Company Sunscreen Stick SPF 30
  4. A change of clothes (so they have something dry to put on for the boat ride in)
  5. Beach Towels (our lightweight towels are a staple for any summer trip)
  6. The boys sunglasses (a cheap pair so I don’t have to keep up with them and I know I’ve got them if the boys need them)
  7. 2 baseball hats
  8. Baby powder for the bums or sandy feet

*I use my Think Dirty app to find the cleanest products for your kiddos

Our Big Tote or Towel Tote makes for the perfect “Boat Bag” for any family

Road Trip!

My family LOVES to travel! We are all wanderlusters at heart and always look forward to our next adventure. As the mom of three teenagers, who always want to take almost everything they own with them, and the wife of an outdoorsman who is always packing hunting and fishing gear- I feel like we look like the Clampetts heading out of town! So whether we are heading to a fun city, the beach, the mountains, or on one of our many road trips to visit family in Tennessee…we take a lot of stuff with us.

Being organized for a trip is essential to a successful and stress-free family vacation (well, is there such a thing?!) and I have learned to pack our suitcases and other gear in the back of my Suburban like a masterful game of Tetris. As long as you have good travel and accessory bags that fit well inside your suitcases and stack well in the trunk of your car, the back of your SUV, or your car topper-you can easily fit it all!

The key to organizing for a family road trip is making sure you have all the necessary travel accessories for your suitcases and duffle bags. Our bins and tote bags are great for the miscellaneous stuff that can be used for packing as well as organizing for just a day excursion.

Putting dresses and blouses, or dress shirts and ties, in garment bags help to keep nicer outfits fresh and wrinkle free! Our selection of garment bags are perfect for all family members.

And don’t forget, everyone needs their own laundry bag for their dirty clothes! Our laundry bags come many styles to choose from that can be used at home and on the road.

ColorBlock-LaundryBag.jpg

Packing several cosmetic and jewelry cases for the girls and dopp kits for the guys helps to keep the small things organized. See our wide selection of styles and sizes! With as many travelers as I have, monogramming our travel gear helps keep our stuff personable and organized in our VRBO or hotel.

CANVAS_COSMETIC.jpg

A cooler bag for the car helps to keep those travel drinks and snacks cold.

And last but not least, be sure to bring your travel journal to write about all the fun family adventures to treasure for a lifetime!

I hope your 2020 adventures are fabulous and fun…and organized!

Happy travels!

Getting Graduation Ready

The spring 2020 season is quickly approaching…which means before we know it, it will be time for Easter, Mother’s Day, and of course, graduation season!

I’m certain that seniors everywhere are counting down the days until graduation. Oh, how I remember that sweet time! One of the many perks of graduation, (aside from earning your diploma of course!) is all of the fun gifts you receive from friends and relatives. The gifts I remember receiving, were the useful and practical ones! Give a gift that will stand out…a college student doesn’t need but so many sets of sheets and bath towels.

  • Stationery – With gifts, come thank-you notes. Our fold-over notes and flat notes make for great thank-you notes to your loved ones. They also come in handy for the students moving far from home – grandma sure would appreciate an old fashioned note to hear how the first semester is going!

NoteCardSet

  • Canvas totes – Our sturdy Canvas Collection has great travel pieces. The big tote makes for the perfect laundry bag to keep in your closet and tote to the laundry room. It’s also the ideal tailgating bag. Pack all of your drinks, snacks, soft cooler, and more in the larger-than-life tote.

Canvas-BigTote-Beach.jpg

  • Beach towels – Sure, most grads get plenty of bath towels but what about a good ol’ beach towel?! They want to hit the pool at the rec center after class and don’t want to be stuck with the tiny, free towel they give you at the front desk. Our beach towels are perfect for drying off, to use as a picnic blanket, a throw in your dorm room, and more!

Towel-Canvas-Visor2.jpg

  • Men’s duffle bags/dopp kits – Don’t forget about the guys! We can’t leave them out, they deserve something useful too. Let’s face it…guys can be hard to buy for. It’s so hard to find gifts out there for them. We’ve got you covered – our men’s duffle bags and matching dopp kits are perfect for travel. They didn’t even realize they needed these items until…well they needed them. You have to put your toothbrush somewhere!

KentuckyDoppKit-2.jpg

  • Keyrings – Have a lot of grads to shop for and don’t want to spend a lot? Consider our keyrings. We have several different styles to choose from. It’s hard not to love them…your grad will never lose their keys again! We also carry coordinating card holders that can be clipped on – perfect for their meal cards and school ID. You can even slide a surprise gift card to the student store for a little something extra!

KEYRING-STACKED.jpg

I hope you find these tips helpful. Take advantage of this time to stock up – the sooner you display your gifts, the sooner you’ll have shoppers. Consider a registry to keep up with what gifts have been purchased for each grad. A great way to help prevent duplicates!

Happy selling and congrats to all 2020 grads!

xoxo

Monograms on Monograms!

I think Reese Witherspoon said it best.  “If it’s not moving, monogram it!”

I live in the heart of the south, where our cloth napkins are monogrammed, luggage, gifts for weddings and babies, even bedding, shower curtains and silverware!  Embroidery isn’t a quick afterthought.   It takes time, planning, patience and experience to do it well.  It also takes the right tools.  It can elevate a store-bought gift into something really special.
Guest-Towels-RedWhite&Blue-01.jpg
Our diaper bags that are trimmed in ricrac or white piping are the perfect baby gift!  And don’t let the navy and light blue bags lean exclusively towards boys.  A curly vine monogram for a little girl in the coordinating white piping is gorgeous!  And a light pink monogram would really pop on the navy.  Our white pique blankets are the perfect blank canvas for a name or monogram! Paired with the coordinating bib and burp cloth, and it’s the quintessential baby shower gift.
Diaperbag_Diapercover_Daygown-crop.jpg
Also, graduation will be here before you know it.  And monogramming our linen bags would be the gift every senior would love to carry into their first years of college.  Choose a duffle, cosmetic bag and train case – personalize each piece and it looks like a million bucks!   Or for an understated, classic gift, personalizing one of the linen bible covers, and including a family bible is a touching, heartfelt present.
LINEN-DUFFLE
I love to monogram or appliqué and I try to find a way to incorporate it into most of the gifts I give. It’s thoughtful, and most importantly, personal. And isn’t that what we all want when we receive a gift?

Displays that Sell

From our window displays to our tabletop presentations, our design team spends a  significant amount of time and energy planning how best to set up our showroom.  We focus on displaying our products in a way that helps our customers see how our product is best displayed for increasing your units per transaction for our boutiques.  Coming out of market, we wanted to share some merchandising techniques that will help you increase your sales.

blog

Create a Story (Idea Orientated Technique): Cross merchandising items from multiple lines will create a story for your customer.  For our January 2020 market, we pulled our ribbon visors, vacation versed tumblers and beach towels to display with our Canvas collection to create our story of a beach vacay! Customers can see what a great gift the visor will make when paired with the beach towel or tote.

front_display

Less is More (Style/Item or Color Story technique): Draw the eye in with color.  Use a color wheel to create a color scheme that attracts the eye of your customers.  This is usually a more organized and clean look which makes your customers look for more.

baby_blog

Call to Action ( with Signage): Whether you have an in-house designer or not, signage can really be a huge asset to a display. Pointing out sales you have going on, or specials is a great way to inform your customers. We love the idea of tying “best seller!” tags with a cute ribbon to some of your top-selling items.

For items with multiple uses, signage is a great way to let your customers know the fun and creative ways it can be used. Our Roll Up Cosmetic Bag was designed to accompany all your travel cosmetics, but it also is a great way to organize toys, pens and school supplies for teachers or students. Signs are an easy way to inform your customers of all the multiple uses of each product.

We love to see your displays with our products!  Please tag us on IG or Facebook when you create a fabulous display including Mainstreet Collection.

Xoxo,

Your MSC Team

Happy New Year & Time for Market!

Happy 2020, everyone! This time of year is crazy enough as it is–trying to get back into the groove after a busy holiday season and getting organized for a brand new year!! For us, we are gearing up for one of our favorite events—the Atlanta market!!

I may be biased, but it’s the best way to start your year off on the right foot. With the new year, you have new products, new customers, new ideas and new relationships! Everyone is excited about the opportunities ahead and the high energy at market is contagious!

For us, market is such a special time because our whole team of reps and office support get together and are able to celebrate a great past year, get each other excited for a fabulous year ahead, and be able to see first hand all of the hard work that goes into this company.

We also love seeing how our customers connect to each other at market. New business relationships formed, facebook embroidery groups of customers from all over the country that get together at market and bounce ideas off of each other, and small business owners who lift each other up. It’s so neat to watch and be a part of!

Screenshot 2020-01-04 21.16.04

After a busy holiday season, I totally believe market re-lights the fire for all of us, in wholesale and retail, of why we love what we do! Gift-giving never goes out of style!

Happy & Healthy New Year!! May 2020 be your best year yet!!

Holiday Traditions from MSC!

Happy Holidays!  MSC employees share their favorite family traditions for this special time of the year.  We love learning more about our colleagues and their family’s traditions and some great ideas for new traditions of your own.

Julie Marshall – We always have a real Christmas tree. My husband and I always had one growing up, and for us- Christmas wouldn’t be the same without that intoxicating pine smell! In my small northeast Ohio hometown, there was one local tree farm that we would go to every year to chop down our family tree- Wilcox Tree Farm in LaGrange, Ohio. When I met my husband, (who was born and raised in a town an hour away from mine) as I was getting to know him, I found out that he worked that tree farm as a teenager. Our paths probably crossed before we even knew each other! Wilcox Tree Farm will always hold a special place in our heart during this time of year and Christmas just wouldn’t be the same for the Marshalls without a real tree! The first Christmas we had with our (now three-year-old) daughter, we got a little excited at the tree lot and got a Griswold-size tree. We had to cut about a foot off of the top to make it fit! It was a fun memory made, and it was the most majestic tree we’ve ever had!

Rae Marie Czuhai – Christmas is all about family and friends for me!  For the first time since my children have been born, they are going to miss one of our longest-standing Christmas traditions, The Robbins’ Christmas Party!! It has been a little traumatic for all of us but it is for a sweet and fun reason. John and his girlfriend Katie, have planned a trip out of town for Caroline to see one of her favorite performers.  It was such a thoughtful gesture on John’s part but still a little bittersweet for Momma! I told them that I have always heard that you need to skip a tradition so that it becomes sweeter the next time that you experience it.  I will let y’all know how that works out for me after Saturday night!
RM-Mingling

Allison Haley – My dad was one of ten kids in his family, so Christmas was crazy when he was growing up.  To keep their gifts separated under the tree his parents made boxes with their name written on them that their gifts were placed in.  The special thing about these boxes is… they had the same box every year.  They were told to not break the box (which could be hard considering 8 of the ten were boys) because they had to use the same box year after year! When I was born my dad made a box for me to carry on the tradition and the same when my sister was born.  Every year our boxes were filled with fruit, candy and daily necessity items (as when my dad was a kid that was basically what their gifts were) and our presents were put around our boxes.  Getting up on Christmas morning to see what Santa had left in our boxes was always so fun (We didn’t run for the toys first, we always went through the boxes first), but the reality is you always knew it would be the same thing.   My sister and I still have our boxes and we still have my dad’s box.  It is so nostalgic to get them out and see them year after year. It is amazing the meaning a 61, 39, & 33-year-old box can be to someone.

Box
Sara Tate – I have to say, I am pretty traditional when it comes to Christmas. Everything from old, traditional Christmas music, to basic white Christmas lights, to the old, classic Christmas movies like “It’s A Wonderful Life.” There’s nothing I would trade for our family’s traditions. Decorating Christmas cookies with my sister, eating my mom’s sausage balls on the couch while we open gifts. Christmas Eve dinner at my Nanny’s, Christmas day lunch at my Grandma’s. While many things in life are constantly changing, there’s something special about keeping Christmas the same. My Grandma’s tree has looked the same every year for my entire life (and probably my dad’s!) with tinsel and cotton on every branch!

Ashley Uptegraft – My family is Jewish and we celebrate Hanukkah! The first night of Hanukkah starts this Sunday night (there are 8 nights total!) and we usually have a big party at my grandparents’ house with all of my cousins, aunts, and uncles. We get together early in the day and make a TON of latkes (potato pancakes!) and then we finally all sit down to eat and drink and catch up! After dinner, we light the menorah and typically have a few family friends over so they can experience and understand the holiday! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season filled with friends and family 💙💙

Jordan Godwin – Growing up, Christmas Eve was always my favorite day of the year. Since before I could remember, my dad and I spent the entire day together running various errands and last-minute shopping. In true tradition, we always had the same schedule: Leave the house at 4am, go to the YMCA to swim, breakfast at McDonald’s, and then supporting the same local stores every year – they all knew to look for my dad and me on December 24th! We would then stop by my Grandmother’s to hang out and eat Holiday treats before ending the day with a Christmas Eve Dinner with extended family. Even though the day rarely changed, I always looked forward to spending the day with my dad. Now that I’m grown, and out of the house, my Christmas Eve memories with my dad are some of my most treasured memories. Though the day was never elaborate or outstanding, the quality time spent with my dad can never be replaced.

ADBE98CE-32AF-4DC8-A8FD-5BFD341C7F56

Bailey Weaver – I love all of the holidays, however, Christmas is definitely my favorite! Ever since I can remember, we always do lunch with my dad’s side of the family and dinner with my mom’s side. I’m so blessed to be able to see my entire family all in one day and over two delicious meals!! Every year we take group photos and this is hands down, my favorite tradition! I love looking at each year and seeing our families grow! These pictures are from last year and I’m excited to take this year’s picture!

Martha Avant – Every year my family has many traditions that I look forward to but my favorite has to be our Annual Christmas Party. I am from a very large family and this get-together is always the highlight of the season. We enjoy delicious homemade food, fun gift exchanges and each other’s company! It can be hard throughout the year to find the time to see each other but we all understand the importance being with each other when the holidays are here.

Micaela Arnett – Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday and always has been! My mom and grandparents have always made it so special for my brothers and I. Something funny that my mom still insists us kids do is take a picture in front of the Christmas tree so she can make a photo ornament for that year. I’ll include my favorites. Sing it with me, It’s a…family tradition!!!

We hope that you have had a special time this holiday with your family and friends!  Do you have a great tradition that you would like to share? We would love to hear from you!  Tag us in your post or leave us a note here!

Happy New Year!

How to Turn Your Buyers into Loyal Customers

As a small business owner, you put a great emphasis on engaging with your customers and providing them with the best experience while interacting with your company. Marketing plays a big role in how many people are engaging with your store and it can ensure that you are building lasting relationships and show competence with big name brands.

Today’s small business owners need to do more with less while still staying on a strict marketing budget. Fortunately, while in the prime of the digital era, there has never been a better time to do free marketing! There are many ways to get in touch with your consumers for free; such as community meetups, blogs, social media, and emails.

However, you are just one person and cannot possibly do everything yourself while running a business.  Automated email marketing could be the best way to engage with your customers! On top of saving you time, it is one of the best ways for companies to interact with their consumers. It’s a win-win on both ends!

You may be wondering why customers prefer receiving updates through email. Well, email marketing is convenient, personal, and instant!

  • It is convenient! As with access to email through their smartphones, buyers can stay connected with their favorite brands and can redeem any coupon codes or other special offers right at their fingertips.
  • With automated emails, you can personalize their experience with your brand by creating several smaller target audiences based on their likes. Then, you don’t end up bombarding them with irrelevant messages.
  • People like the ability to get information about exclusive offers and last-minute deals instantly! Sending email campaigns allows your small business to get the word out quickly and directly to customers who care so they can take advantage of the opportunity to save.

By now you are probably eager to hear some tips on how you can make sure people will sign up to your email list and won’t unsubscribe after a week. So, here we go!

  1. To encourage people to sign up, make sure you provide some value upon doing so. It can be a “Welcome” discount, a free item, or a handful of tips for everyday life!
  2. Once they are signed up, track their purchases to create segmentations and make sure they always receive relevant information specific to them. For example, a person who buys pet items is probably not interested in the newest bridal collection you offer.
  3. Offer discounts that only can be used by those who signed up to receive your emails. This ensures that customers will be afraid of unsubscribing as they could miss the best deals your store offers!
  4. Make sure your email design and language stay on brand. Constant reinforcement of the same elements creates trust and clarity. Hence, your buyers won’t think an email came from “John Doe” when it really came from you.
  5. Always include links and a call to action. The aim of most campaigns is to increase traffic to your online platform (this will help you rank higher when people search in Google). So, put some links in your emails that will take people directly to your website!

If you would like to learn more about email marketing, please shoot us an email at MainstreetCollection@gowhimsey.com! Make sure to include any questions or comments that you have about email marketing.

Hope this helps!

Back to the Basics: Using Machine Embroidery – Tips for the New & Experienced

Happy Holidays!  I can hear your machines humming all the way from here in Little Washington!

When you finally sit down tonight to rest, I thought you would like to read my three easy back to the basics tips. These are very simple, but sometimes they are the things that I forget in the mad rush to get things done! Hopefully, these will help everything run smoothly for your machine in the final weeks of the year.

(Disclaimer:  I am not an authority in any way but have been working with machine embroidery for over 15 years.  Most of what I have learned has been from trial and error, from friends in the industry, and from my local sewing shop.)

  • Always stitch out a new design on a test swatch of fabric, similar to the actual item you plan to embroider. This can save you from a costly mistake on your last pink tote, or grandmothers’ linen handkerchief.

  • Thread Quality – If you are going to splurge on anything in your embroidery supplies – trust me that this is where to do it.  I did not believe it at first, but it does make such a difference with every machine – from the top of the line down to the very basic.  There are times when you have to use what you have but when you are purchasing for a special project or for a customer – choose the best that you can afford.  The money you spend on a cheaper thread is a waste of time and money!

DSC_6946 copy.jpg

  • Did you know that there is a different needle for knit, linen, and canvas? It was one of those things I learned when I first bought my machine but sometimes forget-  choose the right needle! When a thread keeps breaking after the third time of rethreading the machine, stop and ask yourself when was the last time I changed the needle? Or, am I using the right needle for the fabric that I’m sewing on?
    • We use Organ Needles in our warehouse and I use them at home as well.  The most important needle change to me is using a Ball Point needle for knits! This makes a huge difference in the finished product.  Every needle company has a chart for their needles – print it out and use it!

  • Connect with others! Whether you are doing this as a business or as a hobby-join with others on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.  I have great friends that I have met through social media that have lots of experience in lots of different areas. One of the great things about machine embroidery is that there is always more than one way to approach a project and most likely someone has figured a way to do it!  Always ask your support group because you too will one day figure out a way to monogram that odd-shaped project that will help someone else down the road!

Monogrammed_herringbone_set copy.jpg

I love to follow Embroiders and Embroidery Designers on IG & Facebook!  A few of my favorites are Apex Embroidery, Deshler Designs, Bowen House Embroidery, Wildwood Stitchery, Shuler Studio, M.Stuart Monograms, The Lettered Hen, Herrington Designs, Southern Stitched Designs, Katie Gardner, Busy Bee Gift, Herrington Designs and Monogram Mary.

If I am not following you please tag me here and share your favorite monogram tip!  I would love to follow you.

My hope for you this busy Christmas season is no broken needles, smooth thread and beautiful monograms for you, your loved ones and customers!

Merry Christmas and Happy Stitching!

Rae Marie

Thanksgiving Blessings from MSC

Our Thanksgiving blessings are truly a representation of the personalities of our team!

As we take a break from the busyness of the upcoming holiday season, we were interested to find out what our employees are grateful for this year. We encouraged them to think beyond the first things that come to mind and to really reflect on what they are thankful for this year.  As usual with this group, some are serious, some are fun, and some are brutally honest.

Our Thanksgiving blessings are truly a representation of the personalities of our team!

Skye – I am most thankful for routine. Singing my daughter awake every morning just a little early so we have extra snuggle time. Dinner together as a family, and a book before bed. We look forward to that quality time with her, just as much as she does.

Julie – I am thankful to be employed at a company that not only supports the strength and growth of its employees but the strength and growth of WOMEN. Being run by a team of amazing and empowering women, this company understands and allows its employees to grow as confident women not only within our company but in all aspects of our lives. Working at Mainstreet Collection is something I truly treasure. I am so thankful to be an employee here and to be surrounded by such supportive women.

Sara – I am thankful for the traditions. Every year at the Thanksgiving dinner table, we throw random questions into a bowl. Questions ranging from, “If you could have dinner with someone famous (dead or alive) who would it be?” to questions like, “If you were a kitchen utensil, what would you be?” It’s always entertaining to hear the answers – intriguing and often hilarious. Our family is always laughing and reminiscing on funny stories when we get together. This is a fun family tradition we like to continue each year as our family grows.

Bailey – I am thankful for my customers! I enjoy getting to know not only your stores but also you and what all is going on in your lives. Thank you for opening up your stores and your hearts to me! I also am thankful that Shonda Rhimes has kept Grey’s Anatomy going for 16 seasons! I look forward to Thursday nights watching Meredith Grey create medical miracles!!

Martha – This year I truly have so much to be thankful for but more than anything I am thankful for my incredible support system of family and friends. My career with MSC has allowed me to meet a countless number of customers and colleagues who have wonderfully turned into some of these friends. Not only has this allowed me to make lifelong connections, I have also been able to visit with my extended family in my down time because of the territory that I cover. Time with family is so precious to me and I am grateful for the opportunity to see them more often!

Ashley – I am so thankful for my three little brothers! They have taught me to be more patient, how to roll with the punches, and most of all they’ve shown me the importance of being able to laugh at yourself. Nothing like brothers to keep you in check and let you know when you’re being a diva!!

Jordan – I am thankful for traditions! Being a very “type A” person, I thrive on consistency and schedules. Even with the busy holidays, I so enjoy the tradition of family; the same hand-me-down recipes, and all the silly traditions each family has. After dinner, my family always goes outside to play a few holes of golf. The laughing, made-up rules, and typical shenanigans it turns into are something I look forward to every year.

Barbara – I’m thankful for the NICU and the doctors and nurses they took care of my Granddaughter.

Allison – Thanksgiving is on its way, and the sole purpose is to realize what we truly have to be grateful for on a daily basis. While I find new reasons every single day, I am fortunate in the manner that I have more to be thankful for than I typically may remember. Though some days it is hard to see through to the positives of my daily life, I understand that I take so many things for granted. On that note, I have so many things to be thankful for! I’m thankful to have friends that are always there no matter where I go. I’m thankful to wake up every morning and receive a second chance. I’m thankful to be welcomed and accepted by all my customers. I’m thankful for the prayers passed down through my family. I’m thankful to be able to help those in need.  It’s hard to stay away from the over-used because they are what I am most thankful for!

Micaela – I’m thankful for God’s grace. Each day I am thankful for a new beginning and a fresh start no matter where I am in life. To be graciously renewed in mind and spirit daily allows me to be the best version of myself and for that, I am truly thankful!

Jackie – After a whirlwind, over a few weeks of events that my family was going through, I am truly thankful for God’s answered prayers. It’s a great feeling to know that you have an excellent support team of family and friends.

Rae Marie – So blessed this year I do not know where to begin. First, I am so grateful to my family and colleagues who have supported me through my weight loss journey this year.  It has not been easy, but things of great value rarely are. My mom has fought this battle with me and I am so blessed to have her with me and supporting me. So grateful to my family for never complaining about grilled chicken and roasted brussels sprouts.  Last, but not least, I am so thankful for my colleagues.  They have been the best and supported me all the way- I could not have done it without them!

Lilla – Finding motivation can be tough from time to time, especially when life throws obstacles in your way that you have not seen before. I am thankful for being surrounded by hard-working people who inspire me to be better each and every day.

Nancy – I am thankful for the doctors and nurses and all of the medical team at James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital, they have been great at taking care of my son. I am also thankful for my parents; they have been a great support system for my boys and me.

Tracy – I am thankful for Hobby Lobby, my new favorite place to shop for wrapping paper! On a more serious note, I am grateful for grown kids that are coming home for the holidays! Also, I am grateful for our employees! Each and every day, they come to work with the goal of delivering the best to our customers. This leads me to our customers! We are all so very grateful for our customers! We love working with you to grow your business and appreciate what you do to keep Mainstreet Collection in front of your customers. Without you, there would be no MSC! Happy Thanksgiving!

Gift Giving Any Time of Year!

Hello!

I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge fan of cooking and sharing ideas from… the kitchen!

Our Holiday bowls and spreaders, along with other various dishes, can be paired together with your favorite recipe to share with friends and family.

The bowls and spreaders can be wrapped with ingredients or mixes along with a favorite recipe for dips and spreads. This year I did my Creamy Fruit Dip which has been a HUGE hit at the office (see recipe below)!  Great hostess gifts for parties or just a cute way to display your creations for upcoming Holiday events. Another simple and sweet idea is to make a batch of your favorite sweet treat and wrap along inside the perfect bowl to compliment the gift.

I also like to use the platters and coordinating bowls for various chips and salsa or other dip recipes. They also work great for taco or salad night for all of the various toppings. There are endless possibilities to put these items to use!

Get creative in the kitchen and gift a sweet treat that anyone will love… and remember!

Happy Gifting,

Jackie

Two Products, Multiple Uses!

Here are a couple savvy tips and tricks for multiple ways to use our Jewelry Cube and Beach Towel.

I love it when products have the ability to be used in different ways- it just makes life easier! Here are a couple savvy tips and tricks for multiple ways to use our Jewelry Cube and Beach Towel.

Jewelry Cube- This item is truly a great piece for jewelry because it keeps your items from tangling by keeping them separated in the three pouches. However, it also works great for organizing your chargers! You can use the pouches the separate your phone charger from your laptop charger from your headphones! It also is the perfect size to drop in a purse or a backpack.

image003

Beach Towel- This product is a fabulous towel because it absorbs quickly and dries quickly. However, it also makes a stylish wrap if you get cold in church, while in a restaurant, or tailgating! It also can be used as a throw blanket on a bed or on a couch.  I even like to roll mine up and bring it into the movie theater because it gets so chilly in there!

Three tips to make your photos great!

A little glimpse into our world of photography at MSC and some simple tips that you can use for capturing great photos of your own.

I am going to share with you 3 techniques that I use when shooting.  Photography is a content practice of thinking outside the box, challenging yourself to move (literally) outside your norm.  This practice will keep your photos aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

  • Rule of Third- this rule is magical. Go out of the norm when positioning your object in your frame.  Divide your frame into 3 equal sections and position your object on either outside lines.  Using this rule also allows you to have images that will be great for marketing material, for adding text.

rule-of-third-post.jpg

  • Angles- I challenge you to go beyond your normal line of sight. Kneel down and shoot object angling lens upward, grab a step stool and shoot object angling lens downward.  This allows you to capture an image from a different view.  One angle that has become crazy popular is the birds-eye view (aka as flat lays).

angles.jpg

  • Negative Space- we are sometimes wired to think more is better but sometimes less is more. Capture those small details that may get overlooked by detraction.

Stay tuned for more photography tips and tricks as this is just a pinch of information but will make a big impact with your photography and easy to achieve when taking pictures on your phone or camera.

We want to see your fabulous photography by using these techniques, stay social and tag us #mainstreetcollection.

Yours truly,

Amber

Make a Polka Dotted Pumpkin

This was a quick project that only took us about two hours including the drying time.  If you decide to try it, please share by tagging us @mainstreetcollection or use #MSCpolkadot.  We would love to see your pumpkin projects this season!

Yes, we did and so can you!

Whenever my daughter is home from college we always have at least one art/craft project on the agenda and this Fall Break I was dying to take a drill to my pumpkins.  Caroline had volunteered at a children’s “Make It & Take It” art event at her college and said it was easy.  I figured if they could do it around kids, surely I could handle it.  So we did!

Here are the steps that we took and the items that we gathered before we began.

  • PUMPKIN (the bigger the better for me!)
  • Spray paint if you want a color & painter’s tape
  • Power Drill, Circle Drill Bit – 1 3/4″(Craftsman calls it a Hole Saw)
  • Newspaper
  • Knife and kitchen spoon to clean out the pumpkin
  • Safety goggles
  • Tape measure, pencil or Sharpie.
  • Tall pillar candle (4 to 5 inches tall)

Step 1: Wear old clothes and safety goggles because pumpkin bits and pieces will start flying when the drill hits that pumpkin. Definitely an outside project!

Step 2:  Wash pumpkin and let dry.  Put painter’s tape around the pumpkin stem to keep it the natural color. Spray paint your pumpkin on newspaper and let dry.

Step 3:  Cut a circle around the top of the pumpkin and pull gently on the stem to remove it from the pumpkin.  Clean out the seeds and pumpkin fibers. (SAVE the seeds for roasting!! YUM!)

Step 4:  If you want your polka dots to be uniformly placed on the pumpkin then use a tape measure and mark off where you want your polka dots placed.  We started at the top and placed a mark every 4 inches for the center of our polka dot.

(There are so many sizes of circle drill bits but I chose just one for my first time. I am definitely going back to get some other sizes so I can try another one with more random placement of the polka dots and sizes!!)

Step 5:  We did re-spray paint a few areas of the pumpkin again after the drilling but it really is not necessary. (One of us is a perfectionist and one of us is not!)

Step 6:  We used a tall candle in the pumpkin to make it very bright. At first, we used a small votive candle and it did not give us enough light to brighten all of our polka dots so… I went back inside and found a taller, brighter candle.

This was a quick project that only took us about two hours including the drying time.  If you decide to try it, please share by tagging us @mainstreetcollection or use #MSCpolkadot.  We would love to see your pumpkin projects this season!

Happy Pumpkin Day!

Hello from Shenzhen!

“We’ve been blessed to work with the same team for years on end, so at times, it’s almost like they can read our minds!”

IMG_0189

Huānyíng huí jiā! This means welcome home in Mandarin. This is Jordan Godwin, MSC’s Senior Graphic Designer, fresh off the plane from our Spring 2020 Product Development Trip to Shenzhen, China. I was joined by Tracy Mayo, President, for this short but productive trip to review new products and samples for our upcoming releases. Hopefully, you were able to follow along via our Instagram stories for sneak peeks and behind the scenes of the trip!

While we are continually designing and creating new products in our Washington, NC offices, a few times a year, we take the 7,500-mile trip westward to visit our development team. Based out of Shenzhen, China, our fabulous team handles the sourcing, production, and shipping of the product to our Washington warehouse. We’ve been blessed to work with the same team for years on end, so at times, it’s almost like they can read our minds!

Tracy, Jordan and our team in China
MSC’s China Team!

Our team lead by Kate works relentlessly to bring our creations to life. While we communicate daily via email and the occasional conference call, it’s always great to be able to work together in person. In this short, power-packed 3-day trip, we reviewed numerous samples and additions to our favorite collections ranging from Baby, to Holiday, to travel lines. We’re SO excited to bring you the best of the best new products which will be debuting at the January market!

Our day typically consists of breakfast at the hotel, working in the office, and going out for a fun dinner at night. With so many trips under Tracy and I’s belt, we certainly have our favorite restaurants and cuisines to indulge in. One of our favorite restaurants affectionally called “Japanese BBQ” by the locals, is a fun, interactive restaurant. Various meat and vegetables are brought to your table, along with charcoals, and you cook your food in front of you with your table. We all take turns flipping meats, serving each other, and enjoying the fellowship after a long day in the office.

As it seems like as soon as we got here, we were sadly saying our “goodbyes” and “see you next times”. We left feeling excited and confident in our selections, knowing we’re bringing the best of the best to our MSC customers. Make sure you stop by our showroom in January to see all of our new goodies!

Zàijiànle (goodbye for now!),

Giving Back in Honor of Our Volunteers

Chances are, if you have called MSC, you have spoken to Julie Marshall or “Juuulie” as she is affectionally referred to within the office walls.  Julie joined MSC in 2017 as an Inside Sales and Customer Service Rep and has not looked back.  As a Mother of 2, Julie is busy at work and at home but still has time to give back to our local Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter.

At MSC, Julie provides our customers with new product ideas, re-orders and information on their account.  In her FREE TIME, Julie schedules the rides to and from our local VA hospital in Durham, NC.  She confirms appointments and drivers for those in our area that can not make the 100 mile trip on their own.

Volunteering for this organization was something near and dear to Julie and her family. Her husband, Ezra, is a Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served overseas and suffered 40% hearing loss. Veterans’ organizations, such as the DAV are so helpful and pivotal in recovery and resources for veterans like Ezra that she needed to give back somehow. After seeing a sign to volunteer when accompanying him to an appointment at the VA-she went straight to the volunteer office and signed up!

In recognition of Julie’s efforts with the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of  DAV  and the care that DAV provides for Veterans in our community, MSC has donated $1000 to the DAV – Chapter 37 for repairs and maintenance for their vehicles.  It is our privilege to support our colleagues in the non – profit organizations that are near to their hearts.

Additional organizations to receive contributes from our recent Spring Warehouse Sale are First United Methodist Church of Washington in memory of Frank Deaner (husband of a longtime employee, Missy Deaner), and Shelter of Love, a children’s orphanage in Cambodia with ties to our hometown, Washington, NC.

Our next Warehouse Sale is on SATURDAY, APRIL 6th at 1201 W. 4th Street. Washington, NC from 9am to 1pm.  For more information, visit our Tassels FB page.

Momsplaining … MSC Style!

We’ve all heard the term “momsplaining” or have seen the hashtag on social media. Some (myself included) follow actress Kristen Bell as she tackles life through her internet series of the same name. So, as a mom of three-year-old and 18-month-old girls, I am here to momsplain some MSC items for you. Whether you are a mom, grandma, wife, sister…all these tips can help you think outside of the box for the many ways you can utilize our products!

Our Canvas Line is THE BEST for kid’s stuff. The quality has been kid tested (at least in my house)! It’s sturdy and when it gets dirty-flip it inside out and toss it in the washer-which is so convenient. The laptop case is the perfect size for coloring/reading books and (every mom’s favorite) construction paper. It can also slide in the pocket behind your seat in the car to keep kids of all ages occupied in the backseat. Use the cosmetic bag to hold all those art supplies-crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, stencils. Such a great way to keep it all in one place for the little ones to exercise their creativity!

Canvas-2.jpg

Diaper bags are no longer for just diapers and bottles. Use our ric rac diaper bags for the PERFECT tween overnight bag. So spacious inside for all the clothes and shoes their hearts desire! The side pockets are great for cell phones and tablets for quick access to snap pics to capture all the memories of being a teenager. Toss in one of our jewelry cubes or cases to help organize all the charging cords and ear buds!

DiaperBag.jpg

Hooded towels are hooded towels. There’s no magic momsplaning on this one 😊 My daughters LOVE them! They are soft and can grow with the child. Not to mention-so many adorable options! My daughters still use the ones we’ve had since the oldest was a baby. They’re a staple bath item in our household.

HoodedTowel.jpg

Sometimes it’s hard to keep everything organized. Okay, ALL the time it’s hard to keep things organized! Let our Southern Home crunch bins help you with that! They are great for a toy bin in the living room (with the stylish patterns they come in-who will notice there are toys in there?!). Also, they are perfect to store all the essentials you might need for an overnight trip. I have used them to carry diapers, wipes, night lights, blankets, bedtime books, lovies and toys when you are home away from home. It holds it all! Just pack it and toss it in the car.

Not just as a mom, but as a parent, we’re always looking for extra tips and tricks of the trade, so I hope this helps you get creative with the uses for some of our items. Let us see how YOU momsplain some other MSC products! Make sure to tag us on Social media so we can share!

Happy Leap Year!

February 29th is upon us tomorrow. As I’m sure you’re all aware, the extra day is needed every 4 years in order to keep the human calendar in sync with the earth’s orbit around the sun. Earth’s orbit around the sun actually takes approximately 365.25 days – meaning every 4 years, we need to add in an extra day to keep it in sync.

Without the extra day, the calendar would continue to get off sync by 1 day every 4 years. If this continued, over time, it could lead to “February” being a summer month!

The first Leap Day was added by Julius Caesar in 46 B.C.

For me, it’s always fun and easy to remember that Leap Year also brings the U.S. Presidential Election, and the Summer Olympics! The extra day does throw a little bit of a wrench in remembering days of holidays, however. I know I typically can figure out the day a holiday will be, based on what it was last year. For example, my birthday in 2019 was on a Thursday. By normal calculations, at first thought I would presume my birthday would be on a Friday this year. But with the addition of the Leap Day, my birthday is now on a Saturday.

Other Notable Holidays this year are:

  • Independence Day, Saturday, July 4th
  • Halloween, Saturday, October 31st
  • Christmas, Friday, December 25th

While there are no formal celebrations for Leap Day, we at MSC couldn’t let the occasion go by unannounced. We’re excited to celebrate Leap Year with 29% our entire Lizard Collection! The sale runs through Leap Day, February 29th, 2020. As always, we offer free shipping! Check out the specials on our website, MSC Online.

We hope everyone enjoys the extra day of 2020!

Xoxo,

Event Season!

I know it feels like we just celebrated the holidays and in some states it’s still snowing…But soon the Winter will jump into Spring and quickly melt into Summer. I know each season has its festivities, but to me, this time of the year is what I look forward to most! What about y’all? I love to socialize and I find most events and shows happen during these seasons and certainly in the Fall. Are you event ready?

From previous experience, there is nothing worse than having to carry your phone, keys, wallet, sunglasses, and whatever else into an event after having to toss your other, not clear bag, somewhere outside of the venue. Ah!

Most public venues from sports stadiums to concert halls to high school auditoriums are now requiring a clear bag upon entry for both safety and efficiency when dealing with large crowds. This is totally understandable- but can be a bit of a hassle when the average clear bags are not of quality or style.

ClearBag-Envelope

Luckily we launched our clear bag collection with all of this in mind—quality, style, space, and variety. We’ve got you covered with four practical and trendy designs for a clear bag for everyone and every occasion!

I love the cell phone and circle cross body bags because they fit just the basics and sometimes that is really all you need when going out somewhere. This and the rectangle bag are perfect gifts for the recent graduate. What a great and much needed gift to give your favorite rising freshman. I would throw in a key ring and card holder and they are good to go for their first college football game.

Clear-Cell Phone Crossbody.jpg
My other favorite is the envelope bag which is much larger and can really elevate a look with its gold hardware and short handle. It can also double as a cross body as well which we love! Plenty of space will allow this bag to be used any where. Perfect for a trip with the kids to the zoo or aquarium. Hands free fashion for the win!

On any of the four styles, the pebble grain leather can be heat pressed and on the vinyl with a sticker. There are tons of ways to get creative here, like adding your favorite team’s logo, slogan, or a monogram!

Clear-CellPhoneCrossbody.JPG
Enjoy your time and entertainment with your new clear bag! Available now and shipping before you can book your next concert ticket.

Happy sunshine and sweet Spring/Summer time!

Calling All Sports Moms!

As a sports mom of two boys being prepared for any situation is a must.  For years, our sport was football and this year my youngest through a curveball at us and added wrestling!  I’m not sure ANYONE can prepare you on what it means to be a wrestling parent.
Our first match was a ten hour day in a gym! You arrive at 6:00 in the morning and you wait…  Wait for your child to wrestle for six minutes!  Needless to say, I didn’t know what it was going to be like the first time so I wasn’t prepared!  The second time I was prepared.  I packed the Big Tote from our canvas line full of snacks and drinks for the boys, blankets, extra clothes, etc.  The days are long and that is the perfect bag to pack full of any items you may or may not need.  Football season is no different.  The weather could be cold, wet, hot at any given time.  I stuff the Big Tote full of ponchos, blankets, fans and of course my cowbell!
Screenshot 2020-01-24 12.42.12
The Big Tote is not the only piece in our canvas line that is great for sports moms.
*The Breyton Tote is a great everyday tote and is the perfect size for a laptop and folders.
*Jet Setter Duffle is a good size to pack those extra clothes for your kids to change into after the game/match.
*Crunch Bin is perfect for when it is your turn to provide team snacks.
*Finley Pouch makes a cute and easy place to keep you first aid kit, wallet, or keys if you do not want to carry your pocketbook into the event.

Needless to say, our canvas line is a very versatile line with totes and bags that can carry just about everything!
